Program details
Overview
Advanced care paramedicine calls for well-developed clinical reasoning and procedural skills, along with being able to justify an intervention plan that aligns with clinical findings, evidence-based medicine, best practices, and Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards. Graduates work collaboratively within an inter-disciplinary health-care team to support optimal, sustainable patient care, which can include discussing care plans and treatment options with physicians as they happen. The program makes use of Fanshawe's simulation lab and technology.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Post-diploma program listed as open to domestic applicants only. Entry requires one of a Paramedic Ontario College Diploma, a Primary Care Paramedic diploma from an accredited Canadian college, or an Ambulance and Emergency Care certificate; plus a current Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) certificate or equivalent; plus 4,000 hours of Primary Care Paramedic work completed on site with an ambulance-based paramedic service within the last three years and finished before classes begin; plus a pass in a pre-admission theoretical preparedness test. English at degree and graduate-certificate level: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 5 overall with no band under 4.5, PTE Academic 58 with no band under 50, CAEL 70 with 60 per band, Duolingo 120 with no sub-score under 105, Cambridge English 176, LanguageCert Academic 70. Note the selection cut-off differs from the college norm: applications are counted as received by 1 April rather than 1 February, after which places go first-come, first-served until full; ranking then weighs preference for Ontario permanent residents, achievement in the requirements, and at least 70% on the preparedness test. Time-sensitive post-admission items include immunisation records before the first class, a Class F driver's licence before the first class, an AEMCA certificate current within three years, BLS-level CPR current within one year, and a police record check with vulnerable sector screening before 1 May.
