Diploma in Indigenous Social Work

The Diploma in Indigenous Social Work is a 66-credit-hour program at First Nations University of Canada, nationally accredited through the Canadian Association for Social Work Education. It prepares students to enter the human service field as a social worker, with particular emphasis on working with Indigenous individuals, families, groups, and communities, and is grounded in Indigenous spirituality, philosophies, and knowledge systems. High school applicants are not admitted directly; they must first complete the Indigenous Social Work Qualifying program, a minimum 24-credit-hour sequence, before entering the diploma. The program begins in September or January and is available at the Regina, Saskatoon, and Northern campuses. Graduates are prepared for roles such as addictions counsellor, mental health therapist, child protection worker, case worker, and health and wellness coach, and the diploma can lead into the Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work.
