Overview
A strong emphasis in this program is placed on developing an understanding of diverse populations and the skills required to tailor strategies to their needs. You will practice the skills to enhance cultural safety in your support of clients by considering their unique and diverse social, ethnic, religious, racial, spiritual and cultural characteristics. You will also learn the intricacies of working with exceptional populations within the mental health and addictions field, developing tools and strategies for individuals with neurocognitive and developmental disorders.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, degree, or equivalent; a prior credential in a helping profession or justice-related field (health, emergency response, social work) and prior counselling or client-advising experience are recommended but not required. The programme page states no English-proficiency test score; Fleming College's institution-wide tier for graduate-certificate programs applies: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88, Duolingo 120, or PTE Academic 56. International applicants submit an equivalent post-secondary credential, certified with notarized English translations where needed, per Fleming's general admission requirements, and must also complete an international student placement attestation and undertaking. All admitted students must provide a Vulnerable Sector criminal record check within six months, a signed immunization form, a signed WSIB student letter, and proof of a minimum two-dose COVID vaccination.
