Community Crisis and Suicide Response is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate at Georgian College's Barrie campus, delivered in hybrid format with coursework split between online and in-person components. Framed as Canada's first post-secondary program in this field, it prepares graduates to work within community safety and wellbeing systems, applying trauma-informed, decolonial and anti-oppressive frameworks to crisis intervention and suicide response. Coursework builds skills in de-escalation, risk assessment, safety planning and follow-up support, alongside collaboration with emergency services and health and social service agencies to strengthen community-led responses to crisis. Graduates are positioned for roles across crisis response teams, community mental health organizations, victim services and allied social service settings. The certificate suits both new graduates and professionals already working in crisis-adjacent fields seeking specialized preparation in this emerging area of practice. The program admits students in the Fall term.
