Overview
Professionals in the healthcare field recognize that mental disorders, including addictive behaviours, play a prominent role in the many complex clinical presentations which all front-line clinicians face. In this program, students are equipped with the appropriate clinical competencies to recognize and include mental health issues and build effective plans of care, within their current scope of practice, to ensure good clinical outcomes. Students are exposed to a variety of intervention options such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectal behaviour therapy. Ultimately, students develop the skills necessary to effectively work with clients to deliver enhanced services with a focus on quality across a variety of settings.

Admission Requirements: As an Ontario College Graduate Certificate delivered online, this programme requires an Ontario College Diploma, Advanced Diploma, degree, or equivalent in a health, education, human services, or community-safety-related field, naming fields such as nursing and allied health, Developmental Services Worker, Social Service Worker, Counselling Psychology, Addictions: Treatment and Prevention, Therapeutic Recreation, Police Foundations, Community and Justice Services, Protection, Security and Investigation, and Medical Administration. Applicants whose credential is from a private institution must show the registration designation of the affiliated regulatory body, and may be asked for a resume and cover letter detailing relevant work experience. Before clinical or work placement, students must hold current immunisation records under the Public Hospitals Act and a clear criminal reference and vulnerable-sector check. The programme page states no programme-specific language-test score; Georgian's institution-wide English Language Proficiency Requirement for graduate certificate programmes applies instead — a minimum overall IELTS Academic score of 6.5, TOEFL iBT 89 (with at least 22 in writing and 22 in speaking), or Duolingo English Test 130, from Georgian's international admissions page.

Programs outside the highly competitive list carry no equal-consideration date and are assessed on a rolling basis year-round. International applicants apply directly through Georgian's own portal with no published closing date and are assessed on a rolling basis while seats remain, though Georgian warns a program open when applied to may close before assessment.
