Overview
Recreation Therapy is a dynamic and unique health care profession that allows clinicians to practice with flexibility, and creativity. You learn to provide client centered, strength-based services using the recreation therapy process that emphasizes equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. You acquire the skills to complete client assessments and to plan, implement, evaluate and document group and individual recreation therapy programs. Through a number of experiential learning opportunities, you develop leadership and programming skills. A variety of techniques are explored in order to assist individuals to participate in meaningful recreation and leisure experiences to achieve health related goals, improve functional ability, and increase quality of life.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, degree, or equivalent credential with a specialty in health or human services. The programme page sets no English-language score of its own and defers to Georgian's institution-wide English Language Proficiency Requirement, which for a graduate certificate is IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, TOEFL iBT 89 overall with minimum component scores of 22 in writing and 22 in speaking, PTE Academic 61, Duolingo English Test 130, or CAEL 60 overall with a minimum band of 50. Because placement agencies require an up-to-date clear criminal reference and vulnerable sector check before placement, applicants should apply for this check about three months ahead of their placement start date, and an unpardoned record of criminal offences may prevent a student from completing placement and therefore graduating.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: 1 February 2027 is the equal-consideration date for Georgian's highly competitive programs, which now covers Fall 2027, Winter 2028 and Summer 2028 entry, and later applications are assessed first-come, first-served while seats last; offers of admission for this 2026-2027 cycle must be accepted by 1 May 2027. Programs outside the highly competitive list carry no equal-consideration date and are assessed on a rolling basis year-round. International applicants apply directly through Georgian's own portal with no published closing date and are assessed on a rolling basis while seats remain, though Georgian warns a program open when applied to may close before assessment. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
