Overview
This two-semester certificate at Humber Polytechnic's Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology is based at the North campus and makes use of the adjoining Humber Arboretum, a 250-acre botanical garden, for hands-on horticultural training. Students learn horticulture principles, environmental stewardship and sustainability practices across ornamental, woodland and wildlife garden settings, supported by a construction lab for building full-scale structures such as decks and gazebos and a greenhouse for plant propagation and growing systems. The program also develops skills in surveying and assessing landscapes and in drawing and interpreting plans. It is intended for students entering horticulture and landscape-related occupations such as nursery production, landscape contracting, grounds management, landscape design, lawn care, interior plantscaping, irrigation contracting, or work with municipal parks and botanical gardens, including self-employment in the field.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry is via Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U), Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U) and two further Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses; mature-student, college-transfer and university-transfer routes are also accepted. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber's English Language Proficiency Policy, which for certificate programs sets a minimum IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80, or PTE Academic 53-57. Canadian citizens and permanent residents educated abroad must supply an ICAS or WES credential evaluation as applicable.
