Overview
The Electrical Engineering Technology - Energy Systems program at Humber Polytechnic covers the design, installation, operation, maintenance and optimization of electrical systems for residential, commercial, industrial and energy infrastructure applications. Coursework builds on foundational electrical engineering skills to cover power generation, transmission and distribution, instrumentation, electrical machines, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial networking, SCADA systems and machine controls, along with renewable energy integration, smart grids and battery energy storage. In later semesters, students complete technical projects on smart grid management, microgrid design, renewable energy systems and system integration, and examine nuclear energy's role in future electricity demand. An optional co-op placement is available. The six-semester program is delivered on campus at Humber's North Campus in Toronto. Graduates pursue roles such as electrical engineering technologist, power system designer, SCADA technologist, smart grid analyst, protection and control technologist and instrumentation technologist. Beginning Fall 2027, graduates receive advanced standing toward three of the four in-school levels of the Electrician - Construction and Maintenance (309A), Electrician - Domestic and Rural (309C) and Industrial Electrician (442A) trades.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, including Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent), Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent), and two further Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses; mature-student and college/university-transfer routes are also accepted. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber's English Language Proficiency Policy.
