Overview

The Electrical Techniques - Construction and Maintenance Apprenticeship certificate at Humber Polytechnic provides the in-school training required for apprentices pursuing a career as a construction and maintenance electrician. Coursework covers electrical theory, wiring methods, electrical installations, circuitry, controls and trade calculations, along with interpreting technical drawings and applying the Canadian Electrical Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Training takes place at Humber's Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology, using industry-standard equipment, tools and technologies in purpose-built labs, working with instructors who connect classroom instruction to workplace expectations. Admission is regulated by Skilled Trades Ontario (STO): apprentices and their employer register through STO, which schedules the in-school training and sends an Offer of Classroom Training letter. Required preparation is Grade 10.
