Overview
This diploma prepares students to maintain and repair electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. The first year covers electric-vehicle theoretical and practical fundamentals and aligns with the standalone Electric Drive Vehicle Fundamentals certificate; the second year covers advanced topics including powertrains, energy-storage systems, electric machines, power electronics, thermal management, sensors and actuators, charging systems and vehicle network communication. Instruction combines classroom theory with project-based, hands-on work, and students complete a work placement in the third semester. The programme runs two years (four semesters) at the Main Windsor Campus with a September start. Graduates may pursue further study or apprenticeship as an Automotive Service Technician, and are prepared for roles maintaining and diagnosing electrified-vehicle systems for dealerships, fleets and independent shops.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with the majority of courses at the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level, plus Grade 11 Math (C) or (U). Mature applicants without an OSSD are directed to St. Clair College's general admission-procedures page. The programme admits in September at the Main Windsor Campus. No English-proficiency scores are published on the programme's own page; St. Clair's institution-wide standard for diploma and certificate programmes applies to international applicants: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, CELPIP General 7.0 in each module, or Duolingo English Test 110.
