The Policing and Community Safety diploma at Humber Polytechnic prepares students for roles in policing, public safety, justice and community service. Developed with Humber's Police Foundations Advisory Committee, the curriculum covers criminology, the Canadian criminal justice system, policing protocols and powers, youth justice, ethics and accountability, conflict management, mental health and addictions, border services, and community and social issues. Fitness and lifestyle management courses support preparation for the fitness requirements of the Ontario Constable Selection Process. Learning is delivered through case studies, scenario analysis, discussions and problem-solving activities. The program does not include a formal placement, but students can take part in self-directed community engagement opportunities from Semester 1, and eligible Semester 3 students may apply to an optional Career Mentorship Program pairing them with policing and justice professionals. The four-semester diploma is delivered on campus at the Lakeshore campus, with September and January intakes.
