Overview
Community Settlement Services is a two-year Ontario College Diploma delivered full-time at the Milton campus, starting each September. The program prepares students to support newcomers to Canada as they settle and adjust to a new country, focusing on relationship-building and understanding the newcomer journey through a lens of equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Through role-playing, simulations, and field placements, students develop communication skills and learn to design programs and services that respond to the diverse needs and experiences of immigrants and refugees. Graduates are prepared for roles as settlement workers, access navigators, housing support workers, or language and interpretation workers with community service agencies, government agencies, hospitals, schools, and employment agencies. Graduates of the diploma can pursue further study through advanced standing into Conestoga's Bachelor of Community and Criminal Justice (Honours) or Bachelor of Early Learning Program Development (Honours) degrees.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or applicants may qualify as mature students at 19 years of age or older. The programme asks for Grade 12 compulsory English at a C level (70% minimum) or U level (60% minimum), or equivalent, or Conestoga's Preparatory Communications (COMM1250). No Grade 12 Mathematics course, minimum average, portfolio or interview is published for this diploma. Canadian citizens and permanent residents with international transcripts require a course-by-course credential evaluation through an approved provider such as ICAS or WES, and applicants whose prior institutions did not use English as the language of instruction must demonstrate English language proficiency.
