Associate of Arts Degree is an associate's degree in Arts, Design & Architecture programme taught at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered in a hybrid format. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 2,500 per total for local students.
The degree combines a broad range of course offerings with in-depth study in specific disciplines across the curriculum, aiming to prepare students for work, citizenship, and an engaged, informed life while laying a foundation for further study. Because many students continue on to further education, the requirements remain flexible enough for careful program planning and completion of the prerequisites needed for upper-level coursework at this institution or another university in British Columbia.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: KPU's calendar entry for the Associate of Arts Degree Framework states that applicants must be admitted to the Faculty of Arts, whose admission requirement, per the Faculty's own admission-requirements page, consists solely of KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement. That requirement is met by BC English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12 or Literary Studies 12 at a minimum grade of C+ (or IB English HL/SL at 3, or AP English Language/Literature at 2), or by one of IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no sub-score below 20, PTE Academic 61, CAEL 70 with no sub-score below 60, or Duolingo English Test 110, each taken within two years of the admission term. Completing the credential itself, once admitted, requires 60 semester credit hours of first- and second-year courses with a minimum grade of C in every course, including at least 21 credits at the second-year level across two or more subject areas, and the degree follows the BC Council on Admissions & Transfer's Associate Degree standards so that its courses transfer to SFU, UBC (Vancouver or Okanagan), UNBC or UVic.
Application Details
Start Date:September, January and May
Application Deadline:KPU classifies most programs as Open Intake, meaning every applicant who meets minimum institutional requirements is admitted without ranking, while a smaller set of Limited Intake programs closes earlier. For the Fall 2027 (September) term, both domestic and international applications open on 1 October 2026; Limited Intake programs have a firm deadline of 1 March 2027 and may close earlier if demand is high, while Open Intake programs stay open on a rolling basis through a confirmation-deposit deadline of 15 June 2027 to a final cutoff of 1 July 2027. Spring (January) and Summer (May) entry follow the same open/limited pattern on an earlier timeline, and KPU applies identical deadlines to domestic and international applicants throughout. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
