Asian Studies: Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) is a bachelor's degree in Arts, Design & Architecture programme offered by Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, Canada. The programme runs for 4 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 2,500 per total for local students.
The interdisciplinary program begins with courses that introduce Asian Studies as a discipline, along with the nations and cultural traditions of East and South Asia, building critical thinking, communication, and intercultural competencies for later coursework. Students then move into more narrowly focused regional and thematic courses that examine South and East Asian societies, cultures, political systems, economies, and histories, together with how those nations and peoples have interacted with Canada and the wider world. Alongside practical skills applicable to multicultural communities, the program develops intellectual and cultural competencies relevant to a world in which East and South Asian nations play an increasingly influential role.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: KPU's calendar entry for the Bachelor of Arts, Major in Asian Studies states only that the Faculty of Arts's admission requirement applies, and that requirement consists solely of KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement; the programme page adds no further academic prerequisite for direct entry. Applicants are admitted under one of KPU's five categories — High School, Transfer, Mature, Indigenous or Access — set out on the university's own admissions page, with identical academic and English standards for domestic and international applicants. That requirement is met by BC English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12 or Literary Studies 12 at a minimum grade of C+ (or IB English HL/SL at 3, or AP English Language/Literature at 2), or by one of IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no sub-score below 20, PTE Academic 61, CAEL 70 with no sub-score below 60, or Duolingo English Test 110, each taken within two years of the admission term. Declaring the Asian Studies major itself, once enrolled, separately requires 18 credits including ENGL at the 1100 level and 6 credits at the 1100 level or higher in the major area, each at a minimum grade of C, but that is a later degree-declaration step rather than a condition of initial admission.
Application Details
Start Date:September, January and May
Application Deadline:KPU classifies most programs as Open Intake, meaning every applicant who meets minimum institutional requirements is admitted without ranking, while a smaller set of Limited Intake programs closes earlier. For the Fall 2027 (September) term, both domestic and international applications open on 1 October 2026; Limited Intake programs have a firm deadline of 1 March 2027 and may close earlier if demand is high, while Open Intake programs stay open on a rolling basis through a confirmation-deposit deadline of 15 June 2027 to a final cutoff of 1 July 2027. Spring (January) and Summer (May) entry follow the same open/limited pattern on an earlier timeline, and KPU applies identical deadlines to domestic and international applicants throughout. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
