Program details

Overview

Working in this field calls for a mix of technical knowledge, problem-solving ability and physical dexterity, and this certificate is built as a first step toward an electrical apprenticeship. Teaching pairs classroom instruction with lab and shop work, covering electrical fundamentals through both theory and hands-on practice, including the basics of programmable logic controllers and electrical safety. Students learn how electricity and electrical devices function, practise using common electrical tools, wire circuits across residential, commercial and industrial settings, interpret electrical codes, and work with the electronics and instrumentation equipment used in current industry settings.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent with Grade 12 English at the College (C) or University (U) level, Grade 12 Mathematics at the C or U level, and Grade 11 or 12 Physics at the C or U level (recommended); where Grade 12 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C) is used, a minimum final grade of 60% applies.
