Mohawk College offers Diploma in Photography - Still and Motion, a diploma in Photography programme in Hamilton, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 9,215 per semester (CAD 1,381 per semester for local students).
This diploma builds still-photography and video skills through a mix of lectures, shoots and critiques, developing a critical eye and the ability to produce creative photographic presentations in traditional and electronic formats. Students learn to work with industry-standard equipment both in studio and on location, apply current editing techniques for still and video content using up-to-date digital software, and examine ethics and issues relevant to the photography industry and business. The program concludes with students preparing a professional portfolio and a business plan.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Mohawk states the same academic requirements for domestic and international applicants, and requires a portfolio.
ACADEMIC ENTRY: an OSSD or its equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading or GED) including Grade 12 English at the C or U level or equivalent. Mohawk also publishes a mature-applicant route for people without the school credits.
PORTFOLIO: five photographs that show your strongest work and your own style, submitted through Mohawk's online portfolio form. Instructions are emailed to applicants shortly after Mohawk receives the application from Ontario Colleges, so apply first. Mohawk asks for a range of creative images demonstrating exposure, composition and camera control, values consistency across the set, and recommends scanning prints at good quality where no digital original exists. It states that the quality of the submission weighs heavily in the review.
ENGLISH, where it is not your first language (Mohawk lists these as stand-ins for the Grade 12 English credit, and they apply to domestic and international applicants alike): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band under 5.5; or TOEFL iBT 80 (paper-based 550); or Duolingo 105-110 with no band under 100; or finishing Mohawk’s General Arts and Science - English for Academic Purposes program (478).
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through Ontario Colleges: for a September start Mohawk's equal-consideration date is 1 February (1 February 2027 for the next fall intake), and for a January start it is 1 June; after either date, files are considered first-come, first-served while seats remain, with permanent residents of Ontario prioritized, then other Canadian residents, then international applicants. International applicants apply via OCAS's International Application Service on a per-intake deadline rather than one annual date: for January 2027 entry, applications opened February 2026 and the submission deadline is 1 November 2026; Mohawk had not yet published a deadline for the September 2027 intake as of this check. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
