Overview
This apprenticeship programme delivers the in-class training component of the Steamfitter trade at Mohawk College's Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades. It follows an earn-while-you-learn model combining employer-based on-the-job training with in-school instruction led by licensed journeypersons. Coursework covers use of hand and power tools, piping materials, plan reading, pipe layout, cutting, fitting and welding. Graduates install steam and hot-water boiler systems and refrigeration piping in industrial, commercial and institutional settings. The apprenticeship totals 9,000 hours: 8,280 hours of on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer and 720 hours of in-school training at Mohawk College. Training offers are issued by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and registered through Skilled Trades Ontario, with multiple intakes at the Stoney Creek Campus. Only registered Steamfitter apprentices may enrol in the in-school component.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Only registered Steamfitter apprentices are eligible to apply. Applicants must be registered apprentices in the Ontario Skilled Trades apprenticeship system, sponsored by an employer. In-class training offers are issued by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and registered with Skilled Trades Ontario; applicants should keep their school preference up to date via the Skilled Trades Ontario portal.
