Program details

Overview

Sault College provides the in-school training for the Ironworker apprenticeship, a 6,000-hour program regulated by Ontario's Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Apprentices are scheduled by the Ministry to attend three eight-week in-school terms, corresponding to Levels One, Two and Three of the trade. Training covers the structural, reinforcing and ornamental ironwork skills required of the trade, delivered through classroom and shop instruction at the Sault Ste. Marie campus. In-school terms alternate with periods of on-the-job training completed with a sponsoring employer, together making up the trade's full apprenticeship hours. The program is open only to individuals already registered as Ironworker apprentices with the Ministry; classroom training is not available without an employer sponsor. Each level is a Ministry-scheduled requirement toward certification in the Ironworker trade.

Requirements
