BA/BS in Biology is a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences programme offered by Mount Allison University in Sackville, Canada. The programme is delivered on campus. Tuition for international students is CAD 22,890 per year (CAD 11,350 per year for local students).
Biology at Mount Allison University covers the scientific study of living things, including cell biology, ecology, genetics, evolution, and the diversity of animals and plants. The degree is offered as a Bachelor of Science, either as a major or an honours track, alongside a minor open to students in any degree and a graduate Master of Science option. Early coursework introduces organismal and cell biology together with biochemistry, before students branch into ecology, genetics, evolution, and statistics in later years, with room in upper years to focus on areas such as marine biology, developmental biology, neurophysiology, conservation biology, or environmental microbiology. The program is delivered on-campus in Sackville, New Brunswick, and places weight on laboratory and field-based learning, supported by facilities including an aquatic research lab, a digital microscopy facility with electron microscopy, and an environmental and stable isotope laboratory. Students can take part in faculty-supervised research in areas like fish ecology and molecular genetics. The program suits students planning further study or careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, or biological research, as well as those aiming for roles such as wildlife biologist or microbiologist.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Biology's programme page sets no academic prerequisites of its own for a Bachelor of Science and defers to Mount Allison's general admission requirements. There, decisions weigh the whole applicant — academic record, leadership, level of commitment, and potential for personal growth — with the specific courses and grades required varying by the applicant's province or country and prior education. Applicants whose language of instruction was not English must meet Mount Allison's English proficiency requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 with at least 20 in each of Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing (PTE Academic 60 with no score below 51, CAEL CE 70 with no part below 60, Cambridge English B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 with no band below 169, and Duolingo English Test 110 are also accepted). Three years of Canadian secondary schooling, or 30+ credit hours at an English-medium post-secondary institution, can also satisfy it; applicants short only on language may receive conditional admission through the university's English Summer Pathway Program.
