Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in History is a four-year, on-campus undergraduate degree at Mount Royal University in Calgary, covering global historical topics while building research, writing and critical thinking skills across the program. Students explore world history through travel study, fieldwork or independent projects, engaging directly with primary and secondary sources rather than only lecture-based learning. An Honours stream offers a two-course sequence focused on original research in the later years of the degree, culminating in a scholarly thesis or an approved research-based project supervised by faculty. The program suits students who want to understand historical contexts across different periods and regions and build transferable research skills for careers in law, education, public service, museum work, journalism and related fields, with an emphasis throughout on developing strong writing and critical thinking alongside historical knowledge.
