Overview
The Bachelor of Arts Degree in United States Studies is the understanding of the United States and its institutions and policies. Your coursework will span topics in economics, political science, history, and more. You will take courses in areas as diverse as the Presidency, African-American history, and American foreign policy. Upon graduation, you'll be able to apply your understanding of the U.S. and Canada-U.S. relations to positions in the Canadian government, corporations, and other institutions.

Admission Requirements: UBC's own program page for United States Studies (BA) states no specific high-school courses are required beyond UBC's general Faculty of Arts admission standard, and defers other conditions to UBC's institution-wide admission page. Domestic (Canadian secondary school) applicants need secondary-school graduation with at least six Grade 12-level academic courses, including English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12; each file is assessed on overall Grade 11/12 academic coursework, and UBC publishes no institution-wide entry average. International applicants are admitted on a recognised university-preparation credential, for example a completed IB Diploma with three Higher Level subjects. The program page recommends, but does not require, senior coursework in Language Arts, Mathematics, a second language, Social Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. The English-language requirement is IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no part below 6, or an equivalent accepted test.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
