Overview
The NC TESL program has unlocked a secret door to an educational pathway I never knew existed. The amazing combination of instruction, culture, technology, curriculum, practicum and (believe it or not) grammar has reinforced my want to be in a classroom – both behind and in front of the teacher’s desk. Thanks to NC TESL, I’m exactly where I want to be – in a classroom teaching ESL to newcomers to Canada.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a Bachelor's Degree. Because the programme trains English-language teachers, its own page sets an English-proficiency bar above the college's standard graduate scale: applicants whose first language is not English must present TOEFL iBT 101 overall with minimum component scores of 26 Speaking, 24 Listening, 27 Writing and 24 Reading, or IELTS Academic 7.0 in each of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, or another proficiency assessment acceptable to the college and to TESL Ontario; the test must have been taken within two years of the programme start date. Testing or other supplemental evaluation may be required. A Criminal Record Check less than six months old is required at the start of the programme, and students arrange their own transportation for programme requirements. The college does not accept international applications to this programme.

Application Deadline:Niagara College's equal-consideration deadlines apply equally to domestic and international applicants to competitive programs, published for the 2026-2027 cycle: for September 2026 entry the date was 1 February 2026, for January 2027 entry it is 5 June 2026, and for May 2027 entry it is 30 October 2026, each followed roughly three weeks later by a document deadline and an earliest-offer date. All other programs, the majority, are processed first-come, first-served starting each November for both domestic and international applicants, with offers issued until seats fill or the term begins. Niagara does not publish which named programs currently hold competitive status. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
