Overview
The Secwépemc Language Fluency Certificate program is foundational and innovative programs with a focus on Secwepemc Language content in the language fluency curriculum. Admission is open to all learners within the respective Secwépemc communities, particularly those wishing to enhance their knowledge, understanding and conversational ability of Indigenous languages.
The program is designed to be delivered year-long through the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. The Secwépemc Language Fluency Certificate is approved by the local language authorities in their respective communities. Successful completion of the program will allow graduates to work with community members and First Nations Organizations.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to the Secwépemc Language Fluency Certificate requires Grade 12 graduation, Mature Student status, or an assessed equivalent, as stated on the programme page. No IELTS, TOEFL, or other English/French proficiency score is published; NVIT sets language-proficiency requirements per program rather than centrally, and none currently applies to this certificate. No interview, portfolio, age requirement, or criminal record check is listed. Applicants who do not meet the requirement are directed to the Department Coordinator or an NVIT Academic Planner for upgrading opportunities. Domestic applicants apply through Education Planner BC or a downloadable form submitted to NVIT's Office of the Registrar in person, by mail, fax, or email, with official transcripts.

Application Deadline:NVIT accepts domestic applications on a rolling basis: general Fall-term applications are targeted by 31 July and Spring-term applications by 30 November each year, with offers issued in the order applications are completed and, if seats remain, continued acceptance up to the program start date. NVIT does not currently admit new international students for most programs: its Provincial Attestation Letter allocation was set at zero for 2025-2026, so new international applications are accepted only from Indigenous Peoples (per UNDRIP), Jay Treaty applicants, and permanent residents, who apply through EducationPlannerBC. NVIT publishes no international application deadline for these routes, and whether the zero-allocation restriction still holds for 2026-2027 was not confirmed on a page carrying that year. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
