Overview

This program is for students who wish to acquire conversational and literacy skills in a particular Indigenous language, to teach this language in schools, or to enhance their language for cultural reasons or professional objectives.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Indigenous Language Proficiency certificate page does not publish a separate GPA threshold, standardized language-test score, portfolio or interview requirement; admission follows Simon Fraser University's standard undergraduate requirements, summarised on the university's own admission-requirements page: at least five approved Grade 12 courses including English Studies 12 or its equivalent at 70% or better in Language Arts 11/English 12 for Canadian high-school applicants, or a senior-year transcript with first-semester grades for international secondary-school applicants, filed through EducationPlannerBC. On top of general admission, the certificate requires 27 units, at least 12 of them earned in the Indigenous language itself, including INLG 130, 133, 134, 200, 233 and 234. Students are directed to plan the certificate in consultation with the Indigenous Languages Program advisor ([email protected]) before declaring it.
