Overview
The Environmental Resources Technology Diploma focuses on natural resource sectors including forestry, fishery enhancement, environmental assessment, mining and grassland ecology. The Envionmental Resources Technology Diploma is the second year of the program following the first year certificate program. Forest Surveys and Environmental Assessment Surveys integrate year one measurement skills into applications that are important for assessing the land base.
Courses in Wildlife, Fisheries, Grasslands, Environmental Planning, Watershed Hydrology, and Timber Development give students the theoretical knowledge needed to design and carry out field studies. Upon completion of year two of the program, students are granted an Environmental Resources Technologist Diploma which qualifies students to work within a variety of disciplines including forestry, fisheries, wildlife, environmental monitoring, environmental assessment, and working with communities on helping with environmental projects.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Environmental Resources Technology Diploma requires Grade 12 graduation or equivalent, with a C minimum in Math 11 Foundations or MATH 057, English Studies 12 or English 12 First Peoples (or ENGL 060), and Biology 11, Life Sciences 11, or Biology 050, as stated on the programme page, which sets the same entry requirements for both the certificate and the diploma. No IELTS, TOEFL, or other standardized language-proficiency score is published beyond the Grade 12 English requirement; NVIT sets English-proficiency requirements per program rather than centrally. No interview, portfolio, age requirement, or criminal record check is listed. The programme is offered in the Fall Term only. Applicants short of the stated course requirements are directed to the Department Coordinator or an NVIT Academic Planner for upgrading opportunities.

NVIT does not currently admit new international students for most programs: its Provincial Attestation Letter allocation was set at zero for 2025-2026, so new international applications are accepted only from Indigenous Peoples (per UNDRIP), Jay Treaty applicants, and permanent residents, who apply through EducationPlannerBC. NVIT publishes no international application deadline for these routes, and whether the zero-allocation restriction still holds for 2026-2027 was not confirmed on a page carrying that year. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
