Overview
The Foundations in Innovation and Technology Certificate introduces students to a range of technology-based fields in the knowledge-economy, with a specific focus on current opportunities in BC. This modular program offers students insight into the common tools and resources utilised by leading technology-driven industries, while supporting them to develop basic workplace and employment skills.
You will gain hands-on experience in the following technology-based career sectors: Administrative Professional, Communication and Digital Marketing, Web Development and Coding, Software Testing, Network Set Up and Support, GIS/GPS Mapping. Upon successful completion of this program, you will have the opportunity to proceed into more advanced curriculum streams, co-ops and ongoing professional development training, facilitated by the First Nations Technology Council alongside industry and educational partners.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Foundations in Innovation and Technology Certificate requires a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, with a C minimum in Foundations of Math 10 and a C minimum in English Studies 10, as stated on the programme page. No IELTS, TOEFL, or other standardized language-proficiency score is published; NVIT sets English-proficiency requirements per program rather than centrally, and no minimum currently applies to this certificate. No interview, portfolio, age requirement, or criminal record check is listed. The 12-week, full-time certificate is delivered in Merritt and in community, with the intake date currently unscheduled (TBD). Applicants who do not meet the stated course requirements are directed to the Department Coordinator or an NVIT Academic Planner regarding upgrading opportunities before applying.

Application Deadline:NVIT accepts domestic applications on a rolling basis: general Fall-term applications are targeted by 31 July and Spring-term applications by 30 November each year, with offers issued in the order applications are completed and, if seats remain, continued acceptance up to the program start date. NVIT does not currently admit new international students for most programs: its Provincial Attestation Letter allocation was set at zero for 2025-2026, so new international applications are accepted only from Indigenous Peoples (per UNDRIP), Jay Treaty applicants, and permanent residents, who apply through EducationPlannerBC. NVIT publishes no international application deadline for these routes, and whether the zero-allocation restriction still holds for 2026-2027 was not confirmed on a page carrying that year. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
