Program details

Overview

This certificate readies graduates for office roles across business, government, and industry, with coursework centred on administrative skills such as spreadsheets, bookkeeping, automated accounting, keyboarding, word processing, and up-to-date Microsoft Office software. A two-week practicum lets students put these skills to use in a real office setting, with concentration options in administrative, financial, and office-assistant work.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic (native English-speaking) applicants need one of English Language Arts 11 or ENGL 040 or higher/equivalent, plus Math 10 or higher/equivalent, or MATH 030 or higher/equivalent. Non-native English speakers must instead present Academic IELTS 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0; graduates of a four-year bachelor's degree from a Philippine post-secondary institution may substitute either a 'C' grade in a baccalaureate-level English course or the same IELTS 6.0 result. Applicants should have basic computer familiarity and a minimum typing speed of 15 wpm, since the program itself builds this to a 45 wpm graduation requirement. No portfolio, interview, criminal record check, immunisation, or work-experience condition is stated. The certificate starts in September as an in-person cohort at Dawson Creek or Fort St. John, or as an online cohort.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Northern Lights College uses one admissions calendar for domestic and international applicants alike, applying through EducationPlannerBC or in person. Applications open about eleven months before each intake: 1 October for the following Fall, 1 February for the following Winter, and 1 June for the following Spring. For the 2027 cycle the priority deadline is 30 September 2026 for Winter 2027 entry, 31 January 2027 for Spring 2027 entry, and 31 May 2027 for Fall 2027 entry (dual-credit applicants get until 24 October 2026 and 23 June 2027 respectively), with a tuition deposit due about a month after each priority date. NLC states international applicants already in Canada on a valid visa follow the same domestic deadlines; after the priority date, seats remain open, on a rolling basis, until each term's add/drop date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
