Overview

NSCC's Power and Utility Line Work certificate trains students to safely install, maintain and repair overhead and underground power lines, including work performed at height. Delivered at the Sydney Waterfront Campus, the one-year program covers safety and environmental awareness, electrical technology fundamentals, computer and communications skills to international standards, and power distribution and transmission systems. Training emphasizes physical fitness for working at heights, hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude needed for line work. The program requires a minimum 90% attendance in all courses and includes a mandatory field experience placement of approximately five weeks, typically unpaid, with students responsible for their own transportation and accommodation. Graduates are prepared for entry-level line-worker positions with utility companies and electrical contractors, building on classroom instruction with practical outdoor and pole-yard training.
