Program details

Overview

This certificate builds knowledge across tax preparation, client communications, payroll, accounting, spreadsheets, business math, and desktop and cloud accounting applications. Students complete a capstone simulation along with a four-week practicum, graduating ready for immediate work as an accounting technician or bookkeeping clerk across small, medium and large businesses. A partnership between the college and the Certified Professional Bookkeepers of Canada offers a fast-track to the CPB designation, and the program also connects into further CPA-track study through the college's accounting diploma or degree options.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Bookkeeping/Accounting Technician Certificate follows Okanagan College's standard academic floor: applicants need B.C. secondary-school graduation or the equivalent, or, as a mature applicant, to be at least 19 years old and out of secondary school for at least one year. Completion of Okanagan College's own Office Assistant Certificate also satisfies admission in place of these course and test requirements. No IELTS, TOEFL or other standardized English-proficiency test, minimum grade point average, portfolio or interview is published for this program, which is delivered as asynchronous online distance education not eligible for student loans.
