Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate is a foundation in Upgrading/upskilling programme taught at Okanagan College in Kelowna, Canada. The programme runs for 24 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 4,100 per total for local students.
This one-year certificate runs full-time over 24 weeks and follows the British Columbia Ministry's curriculum for the in-class portion of first-year electrician apprenticeship training, covering residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems in line with the Canadian Electrical Code. It is aimed at people with little or no prior experience in the electrical trade who want the skills to seek work as an apprentice electrician. Completing the program counts as Level 1 technical training toward either the Construction Electrician or the Industrial Electrician Red Seal designation, and the college notes that finishing one of those two streams later credits toward the other, along with 4,500 work-based hours, effectively supporting dual-ticketing between the two electrical trades. The program is offered at the Kelowna, Vernon, and Penticton campuses, with intakes in March and August 2027, each limited to 16 seats. Candidates are expected to manage physically demanding work, including lifting up to about 30 pounds, working at heights and in confined spaces, prolonged standing on varied surfaces, and good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. The certificate suits newcomers to the electrical trade looking for a structured entry point before formal apprenticeship registration.
