Overview
The Building Employment Skills and Training (BEST) Certificate supports you in achieving educational, vocational, and personal development goals. The educational focus is on developing student success skills, work readiness skills, employment awareness, and the development of appropriate workplace attitudes, values and behaviours. Your course work will help develop communication, assertiveness, stress management, and conflict resolution skills. You will also participate in employment exploration and work experience in the community.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Okanagan College's Building Employment Skills and Training (BEST) program admits on demonstrated readiness rather than the college's standard secondary-graduation route. Applicants must be at least 19 years old, or 18 and out of the secondary system for at least 12 months, or hold a school-leaving certificate (younger applicants need a principal or counsellor recommendation and Dean approval); no specific academic courses or grades are required, and no English-language test score applies. All applicants complete an intake interview with the ASE Admissions Committee, provide at least two of a psycho-educational assessment, IEP or school records, medical documentation of a learning difficulty, or a referral from Community Living BC, a college instructor, or a community agency, plus one reference letter from an employment counsellor, work coordinator, teacher or employer. Applicants must also show basic literacy at roughly a Grade 4 reading/listening level, the ability to learn in a group, emotional stability, independent decision-making, and reliable transportation.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC (a $30 CAD fee): Okanagan College sets no fixed closing date for most programmes in the 2026-27/2027-28 cycle. Applications for a Fall intake open at 8:30 a.m. on October's first business day of the preceding year, and for a Winter intake at 8:30 a.m. on February's first business day of the preceding year (exceptions apply); Practical Nursing's January intake opens at 9:00 a.m. on April's first business day of the preceding year. Most programmes accept applications until seats fill, though Nursing and Dental programmes set their own fixed or ranked deadlines on their own pages. International applicants also apply through EducationPlannerBC, paying a $100 CAD per-programme fee; the College publishes no institution-wide international closing date and directs applicants to each programme's own page.
