Overview
Astrophysics is a Bachelor of Science (Honours) specialization within Ontario Tech University's Physics program, offered by the Faculty of Science. Delivered on campus on a full-time basis, with September and January starts, the specialization runs four years, or five years with the direct-entry co-op option. Students gain a fundamental background in physics and astronomy, examining current knowledge and emerging theories in astrophysics and using modern techniques to analyze and solve problems in astronomy and physics, with emphasis on current advances and newest technologies in the field. The specialization prepares graduates for further graduate study and for careers in astronomy and physics. Students may instead pursue the five-year Bachelor of Science and Management (Honours) option in their upper years, which adds coursework in finance, accounting, operations, project management and marketing alongside the science curriculum. The co-op option provides full-time paid work terms throughout the degree.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and two of Biology (SBI4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U). In addition, a combined minimum 70 per cent average in prerequisite math and science courses is required. It is recommended that all four of MCV4U, SBI4U, SCH4U and SPH4U be taken.
