Upgrade your human service diploma to a degree in just two years.Program OverviewComplete your degree in just two yearsThis program is designed for students who have completed a diploma in Social Service Work, Social Service Work – Gerontology, Child and Youth Care, Community Work or an equivalent program. Students from these programs who meet the admission requirements will be able to enter directly into the third year of this degree. No bridging courses are required to get into this unique program, which consists of four semesters and an internship.Learn skills that are in high demandToday's human service organizations require workers who have critical thinking, research and leadership abilities. This program is built to address those needs. Skills you’ll learn include: Project management Social innovation and creative problem solving Non-profit governance Research and grant writing Social entrepreneurship Community leadership and advocacy Applied learning and research opportunitiesWork directly with Sheridan’s experienced professors and our large network of community practitioners. You'll work on a research project and provide solutions to real-world issues brought forward by our community partners, who will then provide you with valuable feedback. You'll also practice those skills during a four-month summer internship.Flexible scheduleYou can choose to take this program remotely (fully online) or through our hybrid delivery model (a combination of in-person and online courses). You can also choose to take courses in the daytime or the evening — whichever works best for your schedule. No matter which delivery mode you choose, you'll have opportunities to build rich relationships and a strong sense of community in this engaging program.Opportunities for further educationOnce you complete this degree, you may choose to pursue further studies to build on the skills and experience that you've developed. Graduates from this program can apply for master's programs in many areas, such as: Social work Adult education and community development Counselling psychology Aging and health policy Policy and digital strategy Justice studies Conflict resolution and peace studies Sheridan has been granted a consent by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this degree for a seven-year term starting September 29, 2021 and subject to renewal thereafter. Application to the Ministry for renewal of the consent is a prescribed and cyclical requirement for degree programs at all Ontario Colleges. Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame. Credentials earned during the period of consent remain valid, even if Ministry consent to offer the program is withdrawn in the future. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g. acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions).PBSCD
