Diploma in Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a two-year Ontario College Diploma at Sheridan College that builds foundations in chemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology alongside extensive hands-on laboratory experience. Students train on industry-standard equipment and techniques used in biotechnology testing, research, and production settings, preparing for work as biotechnology technicians. The curriculum covers laboratory safety and quality practices, molecular and cell biology techniques, and applied chemistry and microbiology relevant to pharmaceutical, food science, environmental, and research industries. An optional co-op work term is available after the fourth semester for students seeking applied industry experience before graduation. Graduates are prepared for entry-level laboratory technician roles across biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences sectors, or for further study in science-related fields. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma including Grade 12 English and Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics, or mature student status, with selection based on an applicant's six highest senior-level credits. The program begins in the Fall term and is delivered on campus.
