Overview

This graduate certificate develops advanced game-programming skills across three semesters. Coursework simulates a professional studio environment that integrates game programming, tool development, digital art, storytelling and project management, giving students experience working within realistic development-team workflows. The curriculum builds on existing programming knowledge, extending skills in object-oriented programming, data structures and functional programming into game-specific systems and tools. The programme suits graduates of computer science or programming-related postsecondary programmes, as well as candidates with equivalent demonstrated competence, who want to specialise in advanced game-development programming. Applicants without a relevant credential must submit a questionnaire, resume, cover letter and a portfolio of programming work samples. Graduates are prepared for roles as game programmers and tools developers within the game-development industry.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a postsecondary diploma or degree in computer science, programming or a related discipline, or demonstrated competence through related work and/or educational experience; all applicants should have a solid background in programming, including object-oriented programming, data structures and functional programming. Applicants without a relevant credential must submit a questionnaire, résumé, cover letter and portfolio of programming work samples via GitHub or GitLab. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan's institution-wide English Proficiency Requirement for degree, master's and graduate-certificate programs: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT overall 88 (no section below 21), PTE Academic overall 60 (no section below 57), or Duolingo English Test overall 115 (no sub-score below 95).
