Offered part-time, this postgraduate certificate looks at how serious games are built for purposes beyond entertainment, through the use of game engines, gamification techniques, and extended reality technologies that create workforce-training solutions across industries. Coursework looks at how techniques and technologies drawn from video game design are changing the ways people learn, conduct business, and drive industry, with graduates prepared for team-based roles in fields such as mining, construction, health, education, and research, specializing in serious games or game design. Programmers or game designers already in the field can use the program to specialize within the growing games sector.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This is a postgraduate certificate requiring a prior postsecondary credential. The primary pathway requires an Ontario College diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in computing, information technology, game design or development, or computer science. Applicants without this credential may instead qualify with five years of work experience in a related field, or a combination of education and work experience, evaluated by the college for equivalency; these applicants must submit a resume detailing relevant experience and a cover letter addressing their competencies and readiness for the program. Cambrian's page publishes no English-language test-score requirement, such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL, for this program. No formal interview or portfolio review is stated on this page, and free Academic Upgrading is available for applicants missing entrance requirements.
