Engineering Physics is an honours option within Simon Fraser University's Engineering Science program, offered by the School of Engineering Science in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It leads to a Bachelor of Applied Science degree and combines engineering design skills with a strong grounding in physics, preparing students to understand both how technologies such as transistors are used and why they work. The program is demanding and multidisciplinary; as an honours program it requires a specific grade point average to graduate. Alongside a core of pure, applied and engineering science courses, the curriculum includes study of the social impacts of technology, finance, management, design methods and entrepreneurship, plus an integrated communications course completed throughout the degree. The honours Bachelor of Applied Science program can be completed in nine academic terms plus a minimum of three co-op work terms. Students take a common engineering science core before choosing the Engineering Physics option later in the program, and graduate prepared for graduate studies or direct entry into industry roles spanning engineering and physics.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct-entry applicants must be eligible for university admission, submit a university application, and have completed Physics 12, Mathematics 12, Chemistry 12 and English 12 in high school; entry to Engineering Science is competitive. Applicants transferring from another post-secondary institution need a minimum of 24 transferable units, including at least one mathematics course (MATH 152 or 232/240), one computing course (CMPT 128, 135, or 125 and 127, 225, or ENSC 151) and one physics course (PHYS 121/141, 221 or 321). Simon Fraser University students transferring internally are assessed competitively on an engineering-related grade point average calculated from approved mathematics, computing and physics courses, alongside overall CGPA and course load. The program begins each fall term, though already-admitted students may enter in other terms; students choose the Engineering Physics option after starting in the general Engineering Science program.
