Overview
SFU's MSc in Accounting with Cognitive Analytics combines eight required courses (24 of its minimum 33 units) in data management, visualization, accounting analytics, predictive analytics, data mining and forensic accounting with all three required project courses — the Applied Project and the two-part Advanced Applied Project I and II sequence. The program is built to be finished in five terms and targets accounting professionals who want to add data-analytics capability to their skill set, preparing them to lead analytics work within accounting and finance teams. Applicants need an undergraduate degree in business, management, commerce or another quantitatively oriented field plus at least two years of relevant work experience, with a CPA designation and strong mathematics skills considered an asset; students holding a related SFU graduate certificate may receive advanced credit toward the degree.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an undergraduate degree in business, management, commerce, or another suitably quantitative field, together with a minimum of two years of applicable work experience. A professional designation such as CPA, and evidence of strong mathematics competency, are also expected of candidates. No English-language test score specific to this program is published; SFU's general graduate policy of IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (6.0 per section) or TOEFL 90 overall (20 per section) applies to non-native English speakers. Advanced credit toward the degree may be granted for equivalent coursework completed in the Accounting with Digital Analytics graduate certificate, where a final grade of B or higher was achieved.
