BA/BS in Global Asia Studies

Global Asia Studies is an interdisciplinary minor or extended minor offered by Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The program examines Asia's historical, political, economic, and cultural interconnections with other regions of the world, drawing on coursework from business, communication, geography, history, and political science. It can be added to any major at SFU, letting students combine a primary discipline with a regional specialization in Asian studies. The curriculum builds understanding of Asia as a region shaped by, and shaping, global political and economic systems, migration, and cultural exchange, rather than as an isolated area of study. Students choose courses across participating departments to build breadth in Asian history, politics, and society, or to focus more narrowly within the region. As with other minors and extended minors at SFU, it does not lead to an independent bachelor's degree and is recorded on the transcript alongside the student's primary major.
