Program details

Overview

The International Experiential Learning certificate is offered by the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University as an additional credential open only to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration program. Students complete 18 to 21 units earned through a combination of coursework and an international experiential component, which may take the form of a study-abroad term or an international co-op placement. Required coursework includes courses in language acquisition and in the socio-economic or cultural environment relevant to the international activity, alongside global-perspectives and international business courses, giving students a grounding in the context in which they will study or work abroad. The certificate combines classroom learning with practical international experience, developing cross-cultural and language skills alongside business knowledge. Because it supplements the BBA rather than serving as a stand-alone credential, students declare it while enrolled in their business degree rather than applying for separate admission.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This certificate is open only to Beedie School of Business students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration; there is no separate application beyond current BBA enrolment. Students must meet the prerequisites for each required course, including a minimum grade of C- in any course used as a prerequisite, and a minimum overall SFU Business grade point average of 2.30 to enrol in the certificate's upper-division (300- and 400-division) business courses.
