Contemporary Arts: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Admission Requirements: No minimum GPA is stated for this PhD. Applicants submit an online application through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, sealed transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended (with certified English translation where needed), a curriculum vitae, a two-page research statement covering their academic or artistic background and scholarly or creative practice, an academic writing sample (an MA/MFA paper, catalogue essay, published article, or grant application is acceptable), and three letters of reference. Applicants to the practice-based option also submit a portfolio of video, audio, images, or PDFs, each under 10 MB, clarifying their role in any collaborative work. International applicants must show English proficiency unless they completed a degree taught in English in a country where English is the primary language; accepted tests are TOEFL, IELTS, and the Duolingo English Test, with a DET minimum of 130 overall and 120 per section. No GRE is required; an interview is held only for applicants shortlisted after the initial review, and successful applicants are matched with a supervisor upon admission.
