Overview
Cardiovascular technologists are allied health professionals who perform tests at the request of a physician to obtain information about a patient’s heart and blood vessel anatomy and function. Students learn to use a variety of monitoring devices and other equipment for electrocardiography, multi-stage stress testing, Holter and ambulatory monitor analysis, tilt table testing, pacemaker evaluation and blood pressure analysis. The Cardiovascular Technology program has a standard uniform (scrubs) for our students. The uniform consists of Ceil Blue short-sleeve scrub top, and matching pants. This must be worn in the lab and clinical placements. Additional supplies at a minimal cost will be discussed throughout the program in more detail.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with the majority of credits at the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level, plus Grade 12 English (ENG4U, ENG4C, EAE4C or EAE4U), Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U), and senior-level Physics, Biology and Chemistry at the C or U level; the St. Clair/Lambton Pre-Health Sciences Pathway or the Academic and Career Entrance (A.C.E./Get SET) programme also satisfies the prerequisites. This oversubscribed programme ranks applicants on a composite of Grade 11 marks and first-semester Grade 12 results in the required subjects, so final grades must still meet the minimum course requirements. The programme page sets no English-proficiency scores of its own; St. Clair's institution-wide standard for diploma programmes applies to international applicants: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60 overall, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, or Duolingo 110. Admitted students must also complete CPR-BLS and Standard First Aid certification, mask-fit testing and a Police Vulnerable Sector Check before placement.
