St. Thomas University's Bachelor of Arts with a major or honours in International Relations examines the forces shaping global politics, including the causes of and solutions to conflicts between states and other forces that link or divide communities across borders. Housed within the Political Science department, the program draws on scholarly expertise from across the university, and students are encouraged to take courses in History, Economics, Criminology and Sociology for a cross-disciplinary perspective. Faculty expertise covers Canadian foreign policy, international institutions, Latin American politics and comparative federal systems. Students can take a Model United Nations course that prepares them to represent an assigned country at the Harvard Model United Nations in Boston, building skills in policy writing, research and public speaking. STU also offers travel-study and exchange partnerships in countries including Australia, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, France and Brazil. Internship placements have included the NB Student Alliance and Families Against Violent Extremism. Graduates pursue careers in international law, business, foreign affairs, non-governmental organizations, humanitarian work and journalism.

Admission Requirements: No admission requirements specific to the International Relations major are published; the programme page covers the department's faculty, courses and career outcomes rather than entry criteria, so applicants enter through St. Thomas's general Bachelor of Arts requirements. Canadian high school applicants need graduation with a minimum 70% average on five Grade 12 academic courses, including academic English (or French for Francophone-school applicants) and four Grade 12 academic electives from STU's approved list; meeting the minimums does not guarantee admission. International applicants must show academic strength comparable to Canadian applicants and are encouraged to apply by June 1 for September entry or October 1 for January entry. Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, CAEL, Cambridge English, Duolingo or PTE Academic scores: a full course load requires TOEFL 89 (writing 4.5), IELTS 6.5, MELAB 80, CAEL 60, Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency, Duolingo 115 or PTE 62+; applicants scoring below this but meeting the academic requirements are eligible for STU's ESL programme.
