Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies provides a comprehensive conceptual and applied foundation for those who seek to shape cities. Urban Studies gives students broad and deep knowledge of the historical and intellectual threads of urbanization throughout the world while also providing students with the fundamental tools needed to influence urban development.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This Urban Studies major admits only from within UBC: the program's own page states applicants must already be a UBC Bachelor of Arts student, and admission is by application including a 500-word (maximum) written statement of the applicant's motivations for applying. The page sets no minimum grade, GPA or competitive-average threshold and no separate English-language test score, since candidates have already met UBC's Faculty of Arts admission and English-language standard on entering their BA. It states no portfolio, interview or work-experience requirement beyond the written statement; questions not answered on the page are directed to [email protected].

Application Deadline: Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
