Program details

Overview

This certificate gives students a cross-disciplinary grasp of the climate crisis and equips them for effective engagement with climate responses. It is open to all undergraduate students at the university, functioning as a small minor that can be added onto an existing programme.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UBC's own page for this add-on certificate states it is open to undergraduate students already admitted to any degree program across UBC, so it carries no secondary-school entrance requirements, minimum grades, or English-language test score of its own; a student first reaches it by meeting UBC's general admission standard for their base Bachelor's degree. Admission to the certificate itself proceeds by completing the certificate's own online application form on the Department of Geography's certificate website rather than through UBC's general undergraduate application. The page recommends applying at the end of a student's first year, though it explicitly allows flexibility for students who come to the certificate later - for example, transfer students enrolling in their third or fourth year. No portfolio, interview, minimum GPA, or prior coursework is stated as a condition of entry beyond current UBC undergraduate standing.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
