Overview
UBC Extended Learning's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Certificate pairs a required Anti-Racism Strategies for the Workplace course with a choice of eleven electives on intersectionality, organizational equity and culturally responsive practice, delivered fully online in cohort-paced, dated courses aimed at managers, HR and healthcare professionals. The required course runs 15 hours, and the eleven electives split into two lengths: 40-hour courses on Identity and Intergroup Relations, Engaging Diversity and Inclusion in Organizations, Leadership in Intercultural Contexts, Thriving in Diverse Teams, and Transforming Intercultural Conflict, and 15-hour courses on Countering Biases and Microaggressions, Organizational Equity and Inclusion, Understanding Intersectionality and Identity, Addressing Power, Privilege and Systems, Decolonizing and Creating Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, and Dismantling Barriers to Inclusion within Organizations. Rather than a fixed course count, completion is hours-based: the required course plus any combination of electives totalling at least 170 hours of coursework, to be finished within three years of starting. The fully online, cohort-paced format uses dated course offerings rather than fully self-paced study, and the certificate targets managers, HR practitioners and healthcare professionals building organizational EDI capacity.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the UBC Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, run through UBC Extended Learning, has no formal academic prerequisites: it is open to managers, HR practitioners, educators, community workers and other employers and employees. Applicants must have post-secondary education and/or extensive life experience, fluency in English including good written and verbal communication skills, and the academic and interpersonal skills to participate actively in the program, with roughly seven hours a week available for coursework. Candidates need a computer or tablet running Windows or macOS, reliable internet and a current web browser. To apply, candidates review the program handbook and submit a letter of intent of up to 500 words to [email protected] describing their interest, goals and expectations. Once admitted, candidates self-track their progress and must complete 170-plus hours of coursework within three years of submitting the letter of intent.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
