This 30-credit certificate offers a multidisciplinary introduction to the social sciences, offered at the Montreal campus on a full-time or part-time basis with fall admission only. Five required courses (15 credits) cover an introduction to the field, history, sociology, and philosophy, plus a synthesis component that draws the disciplinary strands together, followed by one methodology course (3 credits) chosen from philosophy or sociology, three elective courses (9 credits) drawn from disciplines such as sociology, history, political science, and psychology, and one free course (3 credits) that students may select from across the university's offerings. The program is built to expose students to several social-science disciplines at once rather than a single specialization. It develops analytical and critical-thinking skills applied to the study of contemporary Quebec society, suiting candidates seeking a broad social-science foundation before committing to a specialized bachelor's program, or as standalone preparation for work requiring general social-science literacy.
