Overview
The Applied Science in the Vantage One Engineering program is for first-year international students who require additional academic English instruction as they begin their UBC degree. In addition to learning a foundation of core knowledge in engineering, you will also have the opportunity to work in teams and learn through critical analysis and research. Coursework ranges from sustainability and engineering, to matter and energy, and computation in engineering design, with Term 3 of the program taught at the UBC Okanagan campus. Placement into second-year engineering programs will be based on an evaluation of your first-year averages and a personal statement. You can complete your BASc degree at UBC’s Okanagan or Vancouver campuses.
Approximately 50% of Engineering students will go to UBC Vancouver and 50% will go to UBC Okanagan after Term 3, depending on your major and academic performance.

Admission Requirements: UBC Vantage College's own admission-requirements page describes Vantage One: Applied Science (Engineering) as an 11-month bridging program for first-year international students who need additional academic English before starting UBC Engineering, and the you.ubc.ca program page confirms it is open only to international students (not Canadian citizens or permanent residents). Course prerequisites are senior-level (Grade 12 or equivalent) Math (Pre-Calculus), with senior-level Chemistry and Physics normally expected though the College allows flexibility for otherwise strong applicants. The English-language requirement for this bridging year (lower than UBC's direct-entry standard) is met by any one of: TOEFL iBT overall 70 with no section below 16; IELTS Academic overall 5.5 with speaking and listening at least 5.0 and reading and writing at least 5.5; CAEL overall 50 with speaking at least 40; a Duolingo English Test overall of 105-124 with speaking/listening at least 95 and reading/writing at least 105; completion of Level 400 of UBC's English Language Institute Academic Purposes program; or IB English B (HL or SL) with a minimum grade of 4.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
