Overview
The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Engineering Physics provides you with the skills and experience needed to develop new technology and interdisciplinary engineering projects. You will take high-level Math and Physics courses, as well as courses in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. In second year, you will take courses in each of these areas and choose Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics as your specialty. The academic program is normally supplemented with technical experience, and protected time for technical work terms is built into the curriculum. You career opportunities may include nuclear and particle physics, micro and nanotechnology, semiconductors and electronics, computer technologies, healthcare, fibre optics and laser design, clean energy, and others.

Admission Requirements: UBC's own program page for Engineering Physics lists the degree-specific prerequisites and defers general conditions to UBC's institution-wide admission standard. Domestic (Canadian secondary school) applicants need secondary-school graduation with at least six Grade 12-level academic courses, including English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, plus Chemistry 12 and Physics 12 as this is an Engineering degree; each file is assessed on overall Grade 11/12 academic coursework plus a core assessment on courses relevant to Engineering, and UBC publishes no institution-wide entry average. For the IB pathway the program page itself requires a completed IB Diploma with at least three Higher Level courses, IB Math Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL) or IB Math Applications and Interpretations HL, IB Chemistry and IB Physics; academically strong candidates missing IB Chemistry or IB Physics may still be evaluated case by case. The program page describes the five-year Engineering Physics program as one of the most competitive and academically challenging undergraduate programs at UBC, though it publishes no numeric admission-average threshold. The English-language requirement is IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no part below 6, or an equivalent accepted test.
Application Details
Start Date:September 2027 - entry is to UBC's Winter Session, which runs September 2027 to April 2028 (Term 1 September to December, Term 2 January to April). UBC also runs a Summer Session from May to August, but not every degree admits to it.
Application Deadline:Apply by 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, for September 2027 entry (Winter Session 2027/28) - this is UBC's university-wide undergraduate deadline and it is the same date for Canadian and international applicants, not a date set by this program. The online application opens in early October 2026 through EducationPlannerBC. Earlier dates apply only to major entrance awards: 15 November 2026 for international applicants (UBC International Scholars Program) and 1 December 2026 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents (Presidential Scholars, UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance and Beyond Tomorrow Scholars). UBC advises applying by the deadline because some programs stop accepting applications on that date; later applications may be considered but are not given the same priority. Document deadlines (transcripts, English-language evidence) are issued to each applicant in the Applicant Service Centre after applying.
