Overview
UBC's Master of Architecture is an accredited professional degree taught in person at the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Applied Science, on the Vancouver campus. The 119-credit curriculum is intensive and largely prescribed: design studios sit at its core and are integrated with courses in design media and representation, technical and material systems, and the history and theory of architecture, and the sequence ends with a Graduation Project. Along the way students build capability in design and visualisation, a range of digital media tools, presentation and communication, and organising and managing projects. The program is designed as a three-year curriculum, and applicants entering with an undergraduate degree in any discipline normally need about three and a half years of full-time study to finish. The GRE is optional, and most graduates go directly into architectural practice.

Admission Requirements: Applicants to UBC's Master of Architecture need a degree in almost any discipline - BA, BSc, BFA, BASc and similar are all accepted - that is academically equivalent to a UBC four-year bachelor's degree, together with a minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC); meeting that minimum does not guarantee admission, since the program is competitive. Applicants from institutions where English was not the language of instruction must meet UBC's language minimums within 24 months of applying: IELTS Academic overall 7.0 with no component below 6.5, TOEFL iBT overall 100 (or 4.5 on the redesigned 6-point scale used for tests from January 21, 2026), or Duolingo English Test overall 125. Required application materials are three academic or professional reference letters, a statement of interest, and transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended, plus a design portfolio specified by the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Application deadlines for the next intake had not yet been published on UBC's graduate-programs page at the time of writing.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
